Barry Burnette, Owner, The Produce Place The Produce Place has been a Sylvan Park institution since it opened in 1988. Owner Barry Burnetteâ€TMs natural foods grocery features one of Nashvilleâ€TMs best selections of locally made and locally grown items, including fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, coffee, honey, chocolate and much more. Local Table asked Barry to shine a spotlight on one of the outstanding growers with whom he works. LT: Tell us about one of the fantastic farmers or artisan producers whose crops or products are featured in the store. Steven Meriwether, whom many people in Nashville know as the longtime pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, is pure quality. He learned farming from his daddy, and he loves to feed people and grow food for them. He supplies us with zucchini and yellow squash, tomatoes, sweet corn, eggplant, watermelon, cantaloupe, snap beans, pole beans and more. LT: What makes him special to you? Steven knows what we want for the store without even asking…heâ€TMs got the touch. He knows when to pick something at the absolute peak of its flavor. A yellow squash on the vine, for example, can quickly turn from peak to past, but he knows just when to harvest it. Heâ€TMs so good, heâ€TMs an extension of our business. LT: Is there anything that doesnâ€TMt grow locally that you really wish did?
